Day 1 |
Today our driver will pick you up from your Hotel in Manali and transfer you by private car to Jispa via Rohtang La pass (3985 m) and the villages of Marhi, Khoksar, Sissu and Keylong. Dinner and overnight in a Hotel in Jispa. |
Day 2 |
After breakfast start driving to Leh by the Manali–Leh highway. The route passes through the Darcha village, which is the last village of Himachal Pradesh, then Zingzingbar, Baralacha La pass (4915 m), Sarchu, Nakee La (4925 m) and Lachulung La (5075 m) passes, Pang (with a stop for lunch), More Plains, then Taglang La pass (5335 m) where you can see Pashmina goats grazing and snowcocks enjoying at the mountain tops. After driving downward by the zigzag road you will reach Rumtse, the first village of Ladakh, and other villages, namely Sasoma, Miru, Gya and Upshi. Following the Indus river, you will reach Kharu, Thiksey, Shey, Choklamsar and, finally, Leh. Dinner and overnight in a Hotel/Guesthouse in Leh. |
Day 3 |
After breakfast, drive to visit the Hall of Fame (Indian Army memorial), Spituk monastery (including the old Buddhist Protectors' chapel popularly known as Kali Mata Mandir), Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, the Magnetic Hill, Sangham (confluence of the Indus and Zanskar rivers). Half a day is reserved to explore the Leh market by your own. Dinner and overnight in Hotel/Guesthouse in Leh. |
Day 4 |
Drive to the Nubra valley via Khardung La pass (5359 m) along the ancient Silk Route. Visit to the Diskit monastery. A double-humped Bactrian camel ride in the Hunder sand dunes. Dinner and overnight in a Hotel/Delux Camp in Diskit/Hunder. |
Day 5 |
Visit to the Samstanling monastery in the Sumoor village. Return to Leh through the same road. In the afternoon, visit to the Leh Palace and Namgyal Tsemo monastery. In the evening, drive to the Shanti stupa to have an excellent view of the Leh town during sunset. Drop off at the Leh center to explore the Main Bazar. Walk to your Hotel/Guesthouse. Dinner & overnight in Hotel/Guesthouse in Leh. |
Day 6 |
Drive to Pangong Tso lake via Chang La pass. On the way visit to the Thiksey Monastery in the upper Indus valley. Then drive by zigzag road up to Chang La (5360 m) and then down to Durbuk settlement (3900 m). Then the road goes slightly up through the plain valley for almost 10 kms and then enters the Mukleb valley on your left. From the small pass just before the lake you will see Pangong (4245 m) for the first time. Pangong is a brackish water lake situated between India (Ladakh) and China (Tibet). It is more than 160 kms in length and 3–4 kms in width at the Indian side. You will have time to enjoy the changing colors of the sea-like water and the spectacular surroundings. Dinner and overnight in the Delux camp on the bank of the lake. |
Day 7 |
After breakfast, drive back to Leh by the same road via Chang La. On the way visit to the Druk White Lotus School in Shey featured in the "3 idiots" film (popularly known as "3 idiots' School"). Afternoon is free for shopping and exploring the bystreets of Leh. Dinner and overnight in Hotel/Guesthouse in Leh. |
Day 8 |
Early morning transfer to the Leh airport. |
This trip can be done in reverse, from Leh to Manali.
